REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
UFA funds 4-H Alberta
Helping clubs provide larger service to their clubs, communities, their country, and the world.
A big part of what 4-H is all about is Learn To do By Doing ~ it’s also their motto. Getting back to normal is just what Tanya Welch, parent volunteer, and the rest of the Rosalind 4-H Multi-Club looked forward to this year.
“It was so great to be back to a more normal year. Our members were able to present their projects in person during the Club show, including the Beef Club who could once again showcase their animals and sell them. We were also able to host our community service event, donating the profits to a local Seniors Living home in nearby Daysland that went towards recreational activities.”
The Rosalind 4-H Multi-Club consists of beef members, sewing and Lego members. There’s a group of Cleavers–the youngsters aged six to eight who are introduced to 4-H and the benefits of being part of a club before joining as regular members. The variety of groups makes 4-H a welcoming place for all since members don’t have to live on a farm to take part.
“This is the first year as a regular member of the Beef Club for my daughter. Working with a big animal was quite daunting at first for her, but her confidence has grown. She discovered the more you put into it the more you get out of it, and she felt very confident going in and showing her steer.”
“We regularly shop at UFA for things like combs, washing supplies, feed tubs, water buckets, show sticks, halters and rope to make halters,” says Tanya, who, along with her husband also belonged to the Beef Club when they were young. “Rosalind is a huge supporter of 4-H and this year marks the 67th Anniversary for our Club.”
In addition to being the go-to destination for supplies for many 4-H Alberta members, UFA plays an active role in helping local clubs and districts achieve more through the UFA Funds 4-H Alberta program.
Last year the club split the money they received from the program into three areas. Funding awarded to the Rosalind Beef Club helped purchase items for their show day such as a trimming chute and blowers. Both Sewing and Lego were new areas for them, so they purchased an iron, cutting board and additional supplies for members. The Lego Club put their portion towards Lego prizes for their Achievement Day.
The Medicine Hat Multi-Club used their UFA Funds 4-H Alberta Program money this year for awards for Speech Day. Each new member also receives a special Club sweater that the funding helps purchase.
“There are really no words to thank organizations like UFA who make this funding available to us! In comparison to other clubs in our district, we are relatively small with 14 members and the money makes a huge difference in what we can offer the kids.”
Medicine Hat Multi-Club Leader Jennifer Munsch, herself a club alumni.
The Medicine Hat members have several projects they can participate in from quilting and cooking to photography and welding. “Leatherwork is really a nice one as it attracts both the boys and girls,” says Jennifer. “Some kids start with one thing and stick to it because they love it so much while others will try something new each year.”
UFA has cultivated a long-standing relationship with 4-H Alberta. Over the years this partnership continues to create a positive and inspiring impact. We’re honoured to help support grassroots growing and learning.
This year the UFA Funds 4-H Alberta program will offer up to $70K in funding to 4-H Alberta clubs and districts for the upcoming year. Each club can apply for up to $300. Applications are open now and will remain open until January 31, 2023.
